From spectacular hiking trails to cliff-ringed lakes, Phoenix offers fantastic places to explore
Grand Canyon Skywalk
Enjoy breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon from a horseshoe-shaped steel frame with a glass floor and sides. The Grand Canyon Skywalk sits about 70 feet from the canyon rim.
Slide Rock State Park
Located at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon and a great destination for summertime. This park has a natural waterslide and features one of America’s ten best swimming holes.
Superstition Mountains
The Superstition Mountains are the largest mountain range surrounding Phoenix and are located near Mesa. The mountains rise steeply to a high point of 5,024 feet with jagged volcanic peaks.
Saguaro Lake
Saguaro Lake boasts 22 miles of shoreline with many saguaro cactus and is located 27 miles north of Mesa. If you’re looking for a more secluded area, try the east end.
Roosevelt Lake
Roosevelt Lake is Arizona’s third largest lake with 128 miles of shoreline. It’s a little further than Canyon Lake at about 50 miles north from Apache Junction.
Lake Pleasant
l0,000 acres of water surface with 116 miles of shoreline. This large lake is located 35 miles from downtown Phoenix and offers boats and jet skis for rent.
Salt River Tubing
Located just 14 miles north of Apache Junction, the Salt River is open for river tubing from May to September.
Camelback Mountain
With an elevation of over 2,700 feet, Camelback Mountain is a popular destination for local hikers.
Phoenix Zoo
Located just north of the heart of Tempe, the Phoenix Zoo is the nation’s largest non-profit, privately-owned zoo.
Pima Air and Space Museum
This Tucson destination is one of the largest aerospace museums in the world. Pima Air showcases nearly three-hundred aircraft over 80 acres of land.
Canyon Lake
Just 15 miles from East Mesa and Apache Junction, the dam-formed Canyon Lake offers beautiful views and a marina with boats and kayaks for rent.
